
Consultancy
and Extension Work
The
Institute works in close cooperation and coordination with the Government
Departments. Regular interaction is maintained with the state Dept.
of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Department of Science and Technology,
Environment and Pollution Control Board etc. With mutual cooperation
with the Department of Tourism, the MTA department organizes Tourism
events every year for promotion of Tourism in the State. These events
feature, Conferences, Workshops and Tourism Quiz events on World
Tourism Day. From time to time, as is required by the Department
of Tourism, our MTA Department helps to offer orientation courses
like Tourist Guide course and Tourist Police Course, to help the
State Department of Tourism in enriching its human resource for
Tourism.
The
Department further carries out Environment awareness expeditions
to various Tourism attractions in Himachal to promote environment
awareness amongst the tourists and the hosts. The importance of
environment conservation and preservation is the main message of
these expeditions along with identification of new strategies of
sustainable tourism development which are suggested to the government.
Liaison is encouraged with all departments related to tourism to
get Tourism projects for the students to work on and gain experience
and this also helps secure financial assistance for carrying out
the projects.
Extension
Work
The
Institute of Vocational Studies gives various types of extension
activities to the Government and non-governmental tourism organizations.
Following are
few important projects and business concerns, which are associated
with our extension programs
Adventure program
designing for hotel Wild Flower Hall Shimla- an Oberoi Resort:
One of the faculty member has designed a very comprehensive adventure
program for this resort of over 100 crore. The students of MTA have
done reconnaissance on about 20 trekking routes, several mountain
bike trails and several short safari routes
Charitable
Hospital at Sarchu
The institute
supports its former students who are running the “first luxurious
resort” at world’s highest motorable road to Ladakh at the altitude
of 4000 meters. The institute has supported them to get funds from
Wild Foundation (WWF) USA directly through its president Mr. Vince
Martin to establish the highest charitable hospital of the world.
Camp
Royal Woods- a village resort of MTA society
The
institute provides its guidance to MTA society- a business-oriented
society registered by former MTA students to establish pioneer projects
in the state. CRW is a upcoming village resort providing Ayurvedic
therapies and village like lodging facilities close to Shimla.
Travel
Agency
Former
students of MTA do run a travel agency with the name of Adventure
India Pvt. Ltd at various places in Western Himalayas like Manali,
Dharamsala and Ladakh. The Institute has done ample efforts to encourage
these students to work and grow together. The company provides best
adventure assistance to mainly foreign clientele in this region.
Feedback
and information to industry
The
members of Institute provide regular feed back to travel concerns
like Indo Asia Tours, Equinox, Uday, Connexons, Cox and Kings, TCI,
Aircuise Holidays in India and Kuoni, Shava Creation, Marcopolo,
ARR, Palanquin etc. of different European countries. The Institute
provides information of adventure itineraries, cost effectiveness,
escorts and guides details, accommodation and weather details.
Travel
programs in TV
The
members of Institute have led the famous TV crews in Western Himalayas
for programs like “Indian Holidays” on Sony TV and one Project has
got delayed with “National Geographic Channel” due to the 11th
September after effects. The program is compiled by Mr. Tsur Shezaf,
a popular journalist from Israel and hopefully will back to ground
in summers 2003. This is a documentary where the institute is providing
logistic coordination.
Micro
light company
The
institute has provided ground reports for a French micro light makers
and provided assistance in logistics of most ambitious future expedition
from Leh to Delhi by micro light covering 7000 kilometres in air.
WWF
India
The
members of institute are closely associated with WWF India and work
for the environmental projects in the state.
Adventure
travel Conventions
the
members of institute are the members of Adventure Tour operators
Association of India too and do provide their valuable suggestions
for the better facilities and operations in western Himalayas.
