Other Activities of the Department

Ever since its inception in the year 1992, the department has grown steadily. Earlier associated with the Management Studies Department, ever since 1999 the Department is an Autonomous Institute of Vocational Studies offering two years Master of Tourism Administration Course in addition to other short term courses.  The Department is actively linked to the Tourism Industry through its Board of Directors which includes eminent tourism professionals representing the Hotel, Airlines, Travel Organizations and Government Tourism Department. The body also includes known tourism academicians and researchers.

The department has adopted its own framework of teaching and research, which is a result of consistent efforts of the teachers. On account of good record of  regular yearly placements /intake of its graduating students in the known tourism organizations of the country, the course is achieving its objective of being job oriented. For reasons of the active initiatives of the Department in organizing, Seminars, Outdoor Activities, research, and providing good placements to its students, the Tourism Department of the University has gained good name and honour within the University and has become known Nationally and Internationally.

Besides the constant efforts to enrich teaching within the classrooms and in accordance with the curriculum, the department is actively associated with key departments of the State related to tourism ( Department of Environment and Pollution Control board, Science and Technology, Department of Tourism )  and the known Tourism Institutes like IITTM and ITFT.  In  collaboration with the same, the department has shaped its teaching curriculum, promotes research based activities and hosts Tourism related academic events.

In order to keep its budding Tourism Professionals aware of the latest trends, news, concepts and researches in the tourism Industry, the Department regularly invites Tourism Scholars and Entrepreneurs for delivering lectures. The Department has had the honour of inviting Prof Tej Vir Singh form Centre of Tourism research and Development, Lucknow, Prof. D. S. Bhardwaj, Chairman and Dean, Department of Tourism, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Prof. O.P. Kandhari, Chairman, Tourism Department, Jhansi, Mr. S.K. Gupta, MD, Paradise Tours, Mr Madan Kak, Senior Manager, TCI and other professionals from various tourism related organizations like, Orbit, Cox & Kings, Oberoi Group of Hotels, and Ministry of Tourism, India, for special lectures in seminars / conferences / workshops / refresher courses and even restructuring the various need based courses taught in the department at regular intervals. 

The department has further introduced 3 Specializations in its curriculum viz. Hotel Management, Travel Agency and Tour Operations, and Information Technology in Tourism. Hotel management Specialization is yet to be started with the furnishing of infrastructure, while the latter two have begun.

In a nutshell, the department is contributing a lot towards the tourism industry by conducting academic, extension and considerable research activities. The academic activities are being carried out by way of classroom teaching, practical exposure in the industry through on-the-job training, field trip and by organizing leadership development camps. Extension facilities are being provided by the department to various government and non-governmental organizations helping them in running tourism course like  tourist guide course, and tourist police course etc. Research activities are carried out in collaboration with the Department of Tourism , Environment and Pollution Control Board and Science and Technology. The Department also continuously takes in enrolments for Ph.D scholars.
