Activities of the Department:
The MTA department
ever since its inception in 1992 has had a profile of continuous
research in various aspects of the Tourism field. It has benefited
from the contributions of Tourism Scholars and like, Prof. Tej Vir
Singh, Prof. O.P. Kandhari, Prof. D.S. Bhardwaj, Prof. S.C. Bagri
and tourism professionals like Mr Madan Kak, Mr. S. K. Gupta, Mr
V. P. Gupta, Mr Inder Sharma, Mr Rajesh Chauhan, Mrs Gikky Singh
etc.
Apart
form being engaged in post graduate teaching and research guidance,
the members of the Tourism Department, H.P. University have been
actively engaged in wide ranging research activities covering a
large number of national and regional topics / subjects. Research
work has been carried out by the faculty members, in a number of
thematic areas of Tourism. like, Tourism Marketing, Tourism and
Environment, Eco Tourism, Adventure Tourism, Heritage and Cultural
Tourism and Impacts of Tourism. The extensive and meticulous work
of Dr. S. P. Bansal on Tourism and Environment and Impacts of Tourism
is recognized as a major contribution in the tourism field and is
well known by students and academicians. Dr Bansal also has done
path breaking research on Impact of Tourism in the developed countries
with special reference to France and compared it with the tourism
scenario in India, when he was selected for Fellowship under Indo-French
Cultural Exchange Programme. Dr. Bansal has written about 8 books
on tourism and marketing, published about 45 research papers in
National and International journals, visited various foreign universities
mainly of U.K and U.S.A, completed about 5 major projects on tourism
of World Bank and University Grant Commision, completed 8 Ph.Ds
under his supervision. In addition to this, Dr. Bansal is expert
member of various Academic bodies constituted by U.G.C and various
universities.
Ms
Sonia Khan has worked on projects on Rural Tourism Development in
the South West region of Western Australia and on Tourism development
Theme for the Mining town and Horticultural town of Harvey and
Colies Shire of South West Australia. In her research project submitted
in the filed of Leisure Studies in Holland, she has worked on the
aspect of gender taking the case of women and leisure under the
topic “Leisure Behaviour of Women In Kinnaur“
( Himachal Pradesh, India ).
Mrs Sushma Rewal
Chugh has specialised in the field of Tourism Marketing. She is
conducting extensive research on Tourism Marketing in Himachal Pradesh.
She has also carried out research on Consumer Behaviour of Tourists,
studying the Attitude and Satisfaction Level of Tourists.
Mr
Chander Mohan specialises in the field of Adventure Tourism. He
has carried out practical field work on a study of trekking routes
and the various aspects of mountaineering and camping. His area
of operations includes Destination Development and research for
identifying and promoting local destinations for various tourist
markets.
Several Projects
have also been undertaken by the faculty members of the Department.
